Early 2000's to Now Makeup Trends

Updated: Nov 21, 2019

Early 2000's

Makeup Trends in the early 2000's were influenced a lot by celebrities like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Their iconic looks sparked a lot of trends and so did the looks of many other celebrities and beauty influencers of that time. These looks included fake tans that were a little too dark, and lots and lots of lipgloss that was probably extremely sticky.

In order to have a full face of early 2000's style makeup there are many different elements to consider. I looked up a bunch of different 2000's looks because there is never just one makeup look that everyone did. But some of the main trends that I found were pretty interesting. For the face makeup many people thought it was crucial to be super tan. The rest of the face makeup was pretty light, none of the looks had very heavy foundation. They did have very rosy and glowy cheeks. Their eyebrows were pretty thin as well. For the eyes, popular looks were colorful eyeliner, shimmery white eyeshadow, purple eyeshadow, and blue eyeshadow. For the lips they normally wore a lot of lip gloss, frosty lipstick, bright red lipstick, and they also lined their lips with a different color than their lipstick.

The early 2000's style is now considered to be kind of cringy which I kind of agree with. Some of the makeup, hair, and fashion trends of that time were a little wacky but they made it work. I like the rosy and glowy cheeks trend because I think it is natural and pretty but the rest of the trends I don't think I would ever wear. The colorful eyeliner could be cool in the right context but the shimmery colorful eyeshadow is a no from me, especially since they wore it up to their eyebrows. I am also not a fan of any of the lip trends, especially the frosty lipstick.

Now

Makeup trends now are inspired by celebrities, beauty influencers, and makeup looks from previous decades but are interpreted in a new way. Trends now are all different, it just depends on how much makeup you wear or what style you are interested in. There are a lot of really interesting trends in 2019 and many of them can be seen in previous blog posts.

A huge makeup trend recently has been glowy skin. It can either be natural glowing skin or a full face of foundation with highlighter to make the skin glow. Contouring is also a big trend and can be done under the face makeup or over the face makeup. Bold eyebrows have also been a trend in recent years and are either sculpted or also can be wild. Monochromatic makeup has also been showing up again in the 2019 makeup trends. Lip colors vary depending on the makeup look but glossy lips are coming back in style after matte liquid lips being a trend in the past few years.

I feel like 2019 has been a year of embracing makeup styles from all decades and making it fun. I like how everyone has their own individual style of makeup and all makeup styles are being accepted. Whether you have a very natural style of makeup or a full glam look I like how recent trends are to embrace who you are with whatever style of makeup you chose to wear.
